Shanghai Nights – A Charity Music and Casino Event

Dr. Allen Chan and Dr. Casey Chan are proud members of the Beyond Productions committee organizing “Shanghai Nights – A Charity Music and Casino Event.” The goals of this evening event on July 24th, 2009 are to raise awareness about the life-saving need for marrow donors and to raise funds to support patients in need of a bone marrow transplant through the work of Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches a.k.a. A3M (a entity of the 501 (c)(3) LTSC Community Development Corporation.) A3M holds over 350 donor recruitment drives every year signing up one out of four Asian donors in the National Marrow Donor Registry.

Every year more than 10,000 Americans are diagnosed with life-threatening diseases that can only be cured with a transplant from a marrow or stem cell donor. Though 30% of the patients find matches amongst their families, 70% have to depend on the generosity of a stranger. There are 7 million potential marrow donors in the national database with just 450,000 being Asian and only 150,000 being multiple or mixed-race. This means that the possibilty of finding a match for an Asian is significantly diminished. People of mixed ethnicity have an even harder time finding a match.

Please join the National Marrow Donor Registry to help save lives.
